Tutoring with a professional prior to 10th grade is a great way to meet college entry and graduation goals.  Starting lessons prior to 10th grade allows enough time to fix weak math skills.  Students in 10th grade and higher are extra busy and many are already burned out on academics....

Basic math skills are tested heavily on the exam described below.  Topics included are equations, fractions, decimals, integers, percents, speed, area, perimeter/circumference, and algebraic expressions.

A math placement exam called THEA is required for some students before entering into college.  To find out about which students have to take it, click the link http://www.tamug.edu/acen/thea_information.htm

The info in the box below shows what happens to a student who is required to pass it for a Texas college but fails it.

What if I do not pass the THEA/ACCUPLACER Exam?

Students who fail one or more sections of the THEA test are required by Texas Law to remain continuously enrolled in developmental studies (similar to middle school math) in addition to their other coursework until all sections of the test are passed.  These courses will not count toward any degree requirements.  Students who have not passed all sections of the THEA Exam may not enroll in upper level courses.
